Tracing of tablets in drum coating systems

In the pharmaceutical industry, batches of tablets are processed in drum coating facilities. Tablet surfaces are sprayed with polymers or active substances and then dried. Coating quality is determined using verified models and measuring inspections.

Four digital colour cameras record the tablet bed surface at speeds of 60 images/s. The QualiVision image processing system can identify even a single differently coloured tablet in millions. Positioning and speed of any marked tablet are continuously monitored and the data saved. The system automatically generates a statistical analysis, evidencing correct and regular coating of all tablets in the drum over the relevant time period.
